Evony Age 2 Guide

The swordsman is the defense foot soldier, but the troop type is not used much in Evony Age 2. Swordsmen are decent at attacking too, but most players in Evony Age 2 use pikemen instead as they are faster and fights enemy cavalry better. Swordsmen are slow to build and they move pretty slowly also. When it comes to defense in Evony Age 2, swordsmen aren’t much used either. The reason is that archers usually perform way better compared to the same number of swordsmen. Personally, I haven’t really used swordsmen much at all in Evony Age 2.

The pikeman of Evony Age 2 is a troop geared towards offense and also at taking out enemy ponies, cavalry and cataphracts that is. Pikemen are good at taking out enemy cavalry having a long reach and high speed. Enemy cavalry are often in front so the pikemen can hit them hard taking them out without being stuck fighting the enemy’s rainbow. To win the battle you should have about 50% more pikemen than your enemy has cavalry, if your enemy uses cataphracts you should have about 3 times as many. The pikemen of Evony Age 2 are much cheaper and faster to train than cavalry and cataphracts though, so this is not a bad ratio at all.

The War Horn is an item in Evony which when applied, will increase the strength of your attacking troops by 20%. The duration of this item is 24 hours. This item can be stacked with other ‘Horn’ effects, but note that the strength percentages remain the same, but it’s actually the time that stacks. There is much confusion with some players when it comes to using the War Horn.You can apply this items while troops are marching. This item is available for purchase for an Evony Price of 10 cents.

This stratagem increases your troops returning speed by 30%. This is a good counter measure to the stratagem Bolt the Door to Catch the Thief. Cicada sheds it’s skin seems like a fairly decent stratagem to use in special situations. It is also fairly cheap for an offense stratagem. I have no idea who Cicada is however.

This stratagem lets you loot more resources from your opponent in attacks by lowering the warehouse capacity by half of it’s level. Since most players don’t use warehouses in Evony, I can’t see this stratagem being useful at all. The stratagem is way too expensive also, so I doubt I will ever use it.

This is one of the most useful stratagems I’ve seen in Evony Age II so far. What it does is to besiege an enemy city and not letting any troops leave from it for a 2 hour period. Say if your opponent has lots of expensive troops in the city, like catapults or ballistas, besieging the city and killing them all off can be very useful. The bad thing with the stratagem is that it is quite expensive and your opponent can counter it with the cheap defense stratagem Advance by a hidden path.

This stratagem lowers the loyalty by one of your opponents heroes by 10% to 50%. If your opponent has an amazing hero as mayor of a city you can successfully attack I can see this stratagem being pretty useful. It is however quite expensive like all the offense stratagems are, so I doubt I will use this much, if at all.
