In the beginning on a new server you don’t really need to build many farms, as food will be the least valuable resource and you won’t have that many troops to feed at this point. Later on the server you might want to capture level 10 NPCs, as these are filled up with lots of level 10 farms. Generally however, food will remain pretty cheap on all servers as it is easy to get food from plundering NPCs. Plowshares is an item in Evony which increases the production of food by 25%. This item is identical to the Iron Rake, other than the duration. The Plowshares last for 24 hours, while the Iron Rake lasts a week. Much like the Iron Rake, this item has little to no realistic use. The 10-15% increase in food production will be hardly noticeable, while value of food does not increase until you are no longer strapped for resources. All-in-all, there should not be any reason to need to use this item. You can purchase Plowshares from the Evony Store for an Evony Price of 8 cents.

The grassland is the last of the 3 valley types that will increase your food production. Many players conquer level 10 NPCs in Evony Age 2 these days, and they then often want to take grasslands around these to get an extra boost in the food production. This offense stratagem is very powerful, the best one there is in Evony Age II in my opinion. What it does is to burn 10% to 50% of the food in your opponents city. Later in the game players often have several billion food stored in their cities and destroying up to 50% of this is huge! With this stratagem out there it will be very hard to support large armies, as you always risk someone using this stratagem on you. The cool down period is also only 6 hours, so you can use it several times a day.

Several Evony players are asking about where to find a Evony food calculator, so I decided to put this post up here. There are some Evony food calculators out there that calculates how much food your troops are eating, but this is pretty useless in my opinion. I mean, you can just place your troops in your city and see for your self how much the effective negative food upkeep is. That is what is interesting after all, what the troops eat minus the food you are producing yourself.
