Cast a brick to attract a gem

with 2 comments

What a weird name this is, cast a brick to attract a gem. It comes from some Chinese saying I’ve heard. Anyways, this stratagem make it looks like you have 5 to 10 times as many resources in your city as you actually have, it is active for 24 hours. Seems like a pretty useless stratagem to me, why would you ever trick someone into believing you have a ton of resources to steal.

Catapults, are they any good?

with 12 comments

Catapults are the most powerful units in Evony, they throw huge rocks at the enemy from a very long distance. Catapults are really cool, and for an attack force nothing beats a 125k catapult attack. There are many problems with them though, number one is that they take an extremely long time to build and you need level 10 barracks to build them in. Many players have 100 total barracks that are level 9, but very few have even close to this many level 10 barracks. In addition to level 10 barracks you also need level 10 metal casting and level 10 archery. Read the rest of this entry »

Evony Archer Towers

with 9 comments

Archers towers in Evony, also called Evony ATs, are simply the best fortifications there is. They stand on top of a massive wall shooting at enemy units from a comfortable position. They will gain an extra 4.5% shooting range for each level your wall is, giving them the second highest range of all the units in Evony. The only unit with higher range is the defensive trebuchet, but that unit is way too expensive and take too much room.

With a battle range of 5000 the archers towers can often shoot at enemy troops for many rounds without anyone hitting them back. I try to get as many archer towers as possible on my walls, about 14,000 of them on a maxed wall. Read the rest of this entry »

Abatis

with one comment

Abatis is the second best fortification there is Evony in my opinion. It is very important to have some of these in your city defense, but not too many. For a city with a maxed wall I usually go for about 1500 abatis. The great thing with the abatis is that it only affects cavalry and cataphracts, so it is not possible to kill off someones abatis with warrior cleaning waves. The abatis also extends combat range to 5,000 which in some battles is really important. A city without any abatis is really vulnerable to cavalry and cataphract attacks. Best fortification combination in Evony

with 5 comments

There are five different fortifications in Evony, traps, abatis, archer towers, rollinglogs and defensive trebuchets. As pretty much everyone knows the archer tower is the best fortification there is, but is it a good idea to have 100% archer towers? I don’t think so, I definitely prefer some diversity in my fortifications. Archer towers can be best against most forms of attacks, but now and then it will help you a lot to add some other fortification units. The most important fortification apart from archer towers in my opinion is the abatis, I usually have about 1500 of these in cities with a maxed wall. Read the rest of this entry »

Evony defense guide

with 26 comments

Defending your cities is obviously very important in Evony. For defense you can use both a lot of scouts so they are not able to find out how many troops you have or just a lot of defense troops so they can’t manage to beat you anyways. In addition to your troops you need a lot of fortifications, I recommend archers towers, they are effective against almost anything the enemy can send at you.

I also recommend having gate closed usually, unless you’re able to have a huge defense army in town, or you are only and manage to figure out how large of an army your enemy sends against you. It’s true that more powerfull players will destroy your fortifications frequently, but they are pretty cheap to rebuild after all. If you keep rebuilding fortifications and don’t have much resources worth to plunder other players will proabably just leave you alone. Read the rest of this entry »
