Guide to Star Levels and Gear

with 16 comments

Stars and star levels is something totally new in Evony Age 2. In Evony Age 2 you can upgrade the star level of your hero gear, and that way you make the gear more powerful. However, upgrading star levels is not that easy and can be quite frustrating.

First thing you need to know about star levels is that you need to use delicate gems or flawless gems in each upgrade, and you do the upgrade in your workshop. You can choose how many and which type of gem you want to use for the upgrade, and you will be told the success rate of your upgrade before you complete it. There are a total of 15 star level for each of the 14 different gear types you will find in Evony Age 2.

Upgrading the first few star levels of each gear is quite easy, and I suggest you only use a few delicate gems for each of these upgrades.  It doesn’t matter if you fail then, since you’ll be close to level 0 anyways. It will become more and more difficult and risky however, since if you faily the later upgrades the gears star level will be downgraded all the way to level zero!

To get all of your gear types to level 15 star level will take a very long time and cost you a lot of resources and gems. In addition to upgrading the star levels of your gear, you also need to upgrade the gear technology itself. Each time you upgrade the technology of your gear the star level will be decreased by one. I suggest you focus on getting all your gear technology to level 10 before you start with upgrading star levels at all. You can read more making gear and upgrading your gear technology here.

In this table you can see what level your star level will be downgraded to if you fail any of the upgrades. As you can see if you fail high level upgrades the star level will be downgraded all the way back to level zero, so I suggest you use 4 flawless gems for the higher level upgrade to minimize the chance you will fail. Failing at level 14 would be horrible, and getting the star level all the way back to 14 once more is very costly.

Star level research Downgraded to if fail
Level 1 to level 2 Zero
Level 2 to level 3 Zero
Level 3 to level 4 1
Level 4 to level 5 2
Level 5 to level 6 3
Level 6 to level 7 4
Level 7 to level 8 5
Level 8 to level 9 Zero
Level 9 to level 10 Zero
Level 10 to level 11 Zero
Level 11 to level 12 Zero
Level 12 to level 13 Zero
Level 13 to level 14 Zero
Level 14 to level 15 Zero

You can choose to upgrade the gear’s star level manually one level at a time, or you can choose to do so automatically to the desired gear star level you want. Doing it manually you can see the success chance of each upgrade you want to do, and how it depends on how many delicate or flawless gems you want to use. You can only use gems of one type on each upgrade, and max 4 at the same time. If you upgrade star levels automatically you get the option of starting to use flawless gems at a certain level of star upgrade. Automatic star level upgrades will use 4 gems for each level upgrade.

  4. I see you recommend upgrading gear technology to 10 before using stars. That will put you way behind other players, and also would require you to pay a few thousand dollars to play free game, lol….
Unless you get triple wheel (never heard of), with Materials each day for a few months….

  7. Gear level and star level are topics that will be somewhat controversial as the mechanics evolve. If you’re playing the game without regard to cost, then buying the materials and resources needed to get your workshops (YES, plural) to level 10 and all the gear to level 10 might make sense. The rest of us will actually try to use what is available without spending much, and will find that “starring up” early on makes better sense.
Basics: a hero can use gear once he levels up to a multiple of 10; a level 10 hero uses lvl-1 gear, level 20 hero, lvl-2 gear. But he gains the attribute enhancements of the WORKSHOP level in his city, no matter what the gear looks like in the hero panel. A hero can be equipped with any piece of gear by clicking on that gear-space, but it is most likely that you’ll want to equip gear of all the same attribute buff, so the “one click change” button is the easiest way to equip. Note that if you’ve leveled up your hero (added the attribute points appropriately and saved to keep the changes) you may have to look at a different hero and then come back to be able to apply the new gear.
The mount decreases a hero’s (and his army’s) time to battle. The Rally Point calculator “One way trip” takes this into account, so you no longer have to do the subtraction yourself, but just for information’s sake: the time to battle is reduced by the speed percentage. A trip of 30 minutes will take only 27 minutes with a Speed of 10, 24 minutes with a speed of 20, and so on. I haven’t seen what effects speed higher than 30 gives – I suspect the percentages go down the higher the level.
Charms and rings are leveled up, “researched,” one time, but worn twice, so their buffs are doubled. They should be the first pieces of gear enhanced, therefore.
Heroes wear the highest level gear they qualify for, so mixed levels gear is still useful. Notwithstanding that, it probably makes sense to level all the gear to one level, before spending the resources to level up one particular piece. Remember, all your heroes use the same gear, so only a couple lvl40+ heroes can use lvl4 gear, but all of your level 20s can use lvl2 gear. Obviously, as you progress in the game, your heroes advance as well, so at some point you may want to “gear up” for your best 3-4 heroes advancing charms and rings, for example, maximally.
Early on, it seems to me, the best use of gems is to star up the gear as soon as you get the gems. They do nothing for you in your chest, and they drop quite frequently as you’re searching for medals. The first star adds 0.4 points to the attribute buff; the second adds 0.35; the third, 0.30. Most “efficient” use of the gems is thus to add a star to all 15 pieces (mounts don’t get stars) before going on to add a second star – though it might be worth considering starring up rings and charms before other pieces as their buffs are doubled.

  8. To equip a hero:
    1) he/she must be min level 10 (to equip with level 1 gear) and must not be out on attack.
    2) You must go to Feast Hall & click on the hero you want to equip & view on the right, options for gear.
    3) Click an option that corresponds to a gear that you have researched. If gear has been researched you should get 3 options:
    *Politics Focus
    *Attack Focus
    *Intelligence Focus
    4) Click on the option that suits your hero.

    5) Repeat process for each gear you have researched.

  9. When you open your “Hero Attributes” as you look at it on the right is the box with all extra equipment. At the bottom is “One click change” & “Buy item”, at the top right is a grey item – run your curser over it and “unequip all gear” will come up – click on that and all the boxers will empty and your hero’s points will go back to what they are with out any of the equipment. If you run the curser over each item it will tell you it’s name, any stars and the value with type. The more stars the higher value the item is
The leadership governs how high the value each item can be, this changes every 10 points.
The level that the workshop is in that city also governs the point value of all the heros in that city. If your workshop is level 8 in the main city all heros will be able to get up to level 8 (if the items are level 8) in that city, however if the next cite only has a level 2 workshop them while the hero is in that city it can only go to level 2.
In my opinion the workshop of the most important building in the city, the hero is reduced (each level the workshop goes up it makes a difference of 15 points to the hero & the speed goes up to the next level until the speed matches what it should be). As this controls the hero’s points, in turn it controls how effective the hero is and everything is made slower be it building, making troops, food – everything
When building each item of equipment like in the academy curtain things have to be met, workshop (the next level), Forge (next level), a Lost Armor script + wood, iron ore etc. (it is a good money spinner, level 9 cost more than 600 game coins)
Getting the stars is more difficult that you thing. For no reason, before you realise it you are back down to 0

  10. you cant upgrade the star lvl of the horse because all it does is increase your moving speed it does not affect your other 3 attributes, politics, attack, or intelligence. Ventury / N9ne of the Divines.

  11. Hey everyone i just wanted to sya something for those of you that want to get high lv gear stars just get them to lv8 then stop cause past lv8 you risk losing star lv back to 0. Even with flawless gems past lv8 its a 70% chance of success not the best odds. So if you want great gear and dont want to have that fail upgrade feeling just stop a lv8 stars it still a nice attack boost when it’s on all your items.

My idea on how to use gems is use delcate to lv5 then use flawless the rest of the way to lv8. Hope this helped at least 1 person lol.

  12. what about star set intel bonuses on troops? I hear 9 stars is 100% life bonus and 12 star set is 150% life bonus for troops? where is this information? is it true? I think it is…

  13. JacKaL, that is retarded. Who told you that? Stars is only one small part of what effects troop life, and they are not all affected by the same things.

LordJonathan, stop at 8 because you fear failing 9? That makes no scene. If you were tying to say having all your gear at roughly the same level instead of one piece of gear really high, then I agree with that. If all your gear is lvl 6 star, dont try and get lvl 12 on one piece. Try and get lvl 8-9 on all pieces.

  14. Here is what i have found it the best process for upgrading your star sets. First off, I started out by getting all my hero gear as high level as possible, since every time you upgrade it you will lose a star. When I started starring my gear, I brought them all up at the same rate, (not sure if it is true but i have heard that doing so increases your success rate). when i begin, i will manually upgrade each piece, from level 0 i will use 1 delicate gem, and the 2 for the next level 3 for the next and 4 at level 3. I do this to save gems but if you have plenty you can use the max of 4 delicates. after i get my star to level 3, i will switch to the auto feature and bring them up using delicates to level 7. using the auto feature it will automatically use 4 delicates per attempt. After level 7, in the same auto feature, i will use the 1st scroll bar and select the “use flawless from level ___” input the level your star is currently in the blank, then on the next scroll bar and click on the next level and hit the auto button. do this for all remaining levels. TIPS: Watch for when other peoples stars are being upgraded successfully, it will pop up at the top of your screen or in the world chat window, this is the best time to make an attempt. Also i have found that the highest political mayor is best to use while starring your gear. If you fail on a piece, stop trying to upgrade that piece, you will continue to fail and keep wasting gems. just give it another day and try that piece again.

  15. 1. All stars at lvl 9 do give a life bonus, but ur heroes must have at least 85 intel to receive it in full.
    2. Star leveling is effected thus; succeed and your chances for another success go down, fail and your chances go up (hidden algorithm).
    3. I level my gear every time I have a fail (lvl 11 star set), which I have alot. As the levels get higher, so do the fail rates. I didn’t wait for all lvl 10 gear to start on stars (thats stupid).
    4. Farming. Gotta farm like mad for the gems or spend thousands of dollars on gems (don’t recommend).

Stars are more important than gear. With the higher sets you get a life bonus which makes a huge difference! Attack is next to worthless compared to the life bonus. Stars are a defenders dream come true.
