NPC City level 5
Level 5 NPC cities are really popular to farm for most players in Evony. On Evony Age 1 servers you will find almost the whole map filled up with level 5 NPC cities that players have made. The reason is that this is now the highest level NPC city you can successfully farm with 0 losses using ballistae.
I think the level 5 NPC city will still be a popular target to farm in Evony Age 2, but now it is not possible to make tons of them around your cities as it was before. If you find a lot of level 5 NPCs around your cities, consider yourself lucky and build a lot of ballistae early on to farm these for resources.
If you want to farm NPCs with 0 losses, you should get Archery to at least level 6 first, and Horseback Riding should always be lower than archery so that you don’t run your your ballistae into the archer’s tower range too quickly. This table gives you minimum ballistae sent to successfully attack with 0 losses. Send enough transports to carry all the resources back, don’t use workers.

to the person above – my first guess would be that since all that was left to kill you was towers… your archery was too low or horseriding was too high and they closed in too fast.
Not gotten so far myself but 1 & 2 work to how he says

archery level 8, Horseback Riding level 5 and Military Tradition level 8 or 9 … you will get ZERO losses when attacking level 1-5 npc’s. The research levels are very touchy when it comes to farming npc’s with ZERO losses. As long as it takes to make ballistas, you should do a few minutes of checking the chart before you send all of them into a certain suicide mission.

Sorry to hear that, I’m very busy these days but I’ll try to look into this as soon as possible. These numbers have worked for me, but I’ve not tested with HBR as low as 5, will post an update soon.

doesn’t matter if I send 500, 550 or 580 bali with archery levl 8 and a 130 attack hero, no enhancements ie horn, always lose 30-35 bali. Maybe lvl 4 is the highest one can hit with zero loss. Heros in npc always very low if there, so no idea of equations posted.

In answer to cojones, my hbr was lvl 5 and mil trad was 8 in all these attempts. I recently updated hbr and will not try lvl 5 again till archery is lvl 10. Another bug is barrick training, attack vs poli makes no diff, mayor makes no diff certainly not like EV I

And here was my second attempt on a lvl 5 with less ballis….all the other previous info was the same…Oh, and this was not the same lvl 5 I hit the first time…this one was totally new and fully stocked! (I know because I scouted both before attacking)

Don’t know if this helps but in AgeI…I always heard that you had to keep HBR at least one level behind Archery to ensure they didn’t get there too fast or weren’t too slow.
My Archery is at 8
HBR is at 7
and MT is at 6
I can farm a lvl 4 with 200/200 with no losses
on a lvl 5 when I sent 500/500 I lost like 38 ballista when I sent 400/400 I only lost 14..so I think it’s finding the balance there

It doesn’t matter how many balista I send to L5 NPC. I always have losses. Archer at 9, HBR at 7.

Sent 750 Ballistae and 750 transports against a level 5 NPC city and lost everything. Killed all the troops there, but only took out 86 of 1250 archer towers. The hero there was only level 11.

So, someone just explained to me because I was running no loses on lvl 5s with 550 ballistas,
lvl 8 archery and lvl 5 hbr.
As soon as my archery hit 9, i was losing 30 ballistas every time. He said you need lvl 9 archery and lvl 8 HBR, apparently lvl 6 hbr will have loses, and 7 will actually be even worse, so you need
Lvl 8 archery lvl 5 Hbr with 550
or
Lvl 9 archery lvl 8 Hbr with 500
and nothing in between…..

I have ach9 hbr8 and MT and IW both 9 yet still i get looses on a lvl 5. I even sent 600 and lost 27 when I should be able to send 500 with zero losses. I’m at a loss for what is going on if anyone has any incite.

Everyone is loosing ballista, because your heroes are mounted and it affect how fast the ballista are closing ontu the wall. Try to unmount the heroes and see if that helps.

I think the hbr thing is certain levels make you have losses regardless. think between 3 and 7 I suffered small losses of around 30-40 bal even when my archery was 9 the whole time. but now hbr 8 arch 9 I can happily use 500 bal with 0 losses.

This may answer some of your questions for why your losing troops. When you think about sending in more troops you do this because you think it will increase the chances. Evony doesn’t work this way, there is a very fine line on how much you can send before you lose troops. Why they did this i don’t know. Back in Age1 you needed to have a min Arch of lvl 7 and min Hbr of lvl 6 and Mt lvl 5 to even stand a chance of not losing any balls(i dont recall the amount of troops cause i waiting till i maxed out on archery) When i got arch to lvl 9 and Hbr to lvl 8 i started farming.. Mt was still at lvl 5. i sent 400 balls and 250 trans lost like 20 balls with a hero that was over 125 attck. I then went down and try 350 and from that point on i never lost a ball. I experimented with troop sizes, you could actually drop it down to 325 and most times get away with not lossing any, and you could rasie it about 380 and most times not lose any. But once an while you would. Now i havn’t tried farming in age 2 yet i just started, but it sounds like the same thing is happening. So this is what i suggest. If you your sending out 800 balls and your fully upgraded and wondering why your losing troops, try sending 25% less balls and see if the number of troop losses go down also. keep doing this till you have no losses and then you know how many to send.

hmmm think there is a problem with archery 9 as on age 1 hero attack is 162 only thing i can think causing the loss is i just upgraded his steed to level 4 HBr is only 5? confuddled now but won 10 master guidlines so archery 10 not far off

Your HBR level will affect the amount of casaulties you will receive, the higher it is the more likely you’ll need to get your arch higher or send in more ballistas, plan and simple.
Quote the guide ‘Horseback Riding should always be lower than archery so that you don’t run your your ballistae into the archer’s tower range too quickly.’

ATTACKING
Attacking low lvl NPC cities are mainly for resource and gold, this is done with ballistas to achieve 0 loses. The maximum level without loses is level 5, level 6 or more have trebuchets so you will always suffer losses there.
But there are ARCHER TOWERS… so you need specific tech level of archery and Horseback Riding (HBR).

Okay, it is definitely the hero mounts that are causing the problem. i was losing 20-30 ballis on every att. Then I went to my feasting hall and removed the mount from my hero, and now it works fine. That would also explain why low level heroes aren’t having the problem.

Hey folks I’ve attacked NPC.5 with 0 losses.
Using lv.54 hero with 174 Att, Mount lv.3 +30 speed.
I also sent 550 ballistas / transports.
I have Arch 9, HBR 9, MT 7, IW 6, MD 4.
I would recommend waiting till you have lv.9 Arch and HBR before attempting NPC.5 attack.

when attacking Npc’s 1-5 even 6 make shure u have HBR9-ARCH10-MT1o an u will have fewer to no losses when attackiing lvl-Five Npc’s with hero attack as low as 50-55 with same amount of ballista per lvl of.npc

attacking lvl 5 npc with lvl 8 arch and lvl 5 horse with 550 bals = no losses
attacking lvl 5 npc with arch 9 and horse 5 with 550 bals = 30 lost

I am running level 5 npcs with zero losses with 400 to 420 ballies (depending on hero level) and 400 transporters. All research at level 10 except HBR which is at 9. Lowest level hero that I risk a level 5 with is at level 38.

I spend weeks building lvl5 NPC’s just to wake up this morning all have reseted to flats! This is really shame on part of evony to do such a stupid thing how else will you build up cities and troops; wait on stupid facebook charity of 100k of food and stuff.

Do you know why I loose ballista’s since 3 days by attacking lvl5 NPC’s?
I didn’t loose before.
My lvl of archery is 8 (almost 9) and hrsbackriding 7.
My heroes are all lvl 50+ and attack 140+.
I attack with 700 ballista, and the wiki says it can be done with 550 ballista’s.

Is it possible to build NPC lvl 5 yourself in AGE II and if so how can I do that and what do I need for that (rank? title? lvl cityhall? lvl flat?)

I took a level 5 npc with 500 ballistae, level 9 archery and level 4 horseriding. I lost 30 ballistae. Clearly level 5 guidelines in this article are inaccurate – BE WARNED.

you need HBR at a min LvL 8 for no losses on a npc5

500 ballista is true I RECOMMEND from my experience in game to put HBR lvl 8 maximum until you got lvl 10 arch.
With any kind of hero it work low or high lvl change strictly nothing. The only error the Article miss is the combination of HBR and Archery!
So here a little correction!.
Never attack a lvl5 until you got Arch9 and HBR8.

You need a free city slot and the lvl of the flat will set the lvl of the npc once you abandon the city

I don’t understand all the “why didn’t this work…” posts and all the crap about hero mounts and all the other BS that has happened. READ the post that MileHigh left about what to use and what combos of Arch/HBR to use with how many Ballitae and you’ll be fine.
Let me say it again:
READ the post. Do what it says. NO LOSSES.
Let me clarify for those that are a bit slow:
Skip the guidelines and go right to the post by MileHigh. DO WHAT IT SAYS. No Losses.
To this, I would only add that you should not attempt a lvl 5 NPC at arch lvl 8 and above if you are attempting a no losses ballista/transporter only attack.
The numbers posted by MileHigh work for any level Hero, and have been tried with hero attack as low as 18 (18!!) WITH NO LOSSES in AGE 1 and AGE 2.

I am currently farming npc5′s with 330 ballistae and NO LOSSES.
Archery lvl10 HBR lvl9
450 transporters.
Works every time.
Each hero is above 125 attack.

What a stupid game ! On Age1 I only need 280-300 balistas to farm a lv 5 npc. Here I sent 570 just to be sure and got wiped out. Age2 is a joke and I wouldn’t recommend spending a cent on it. Bugs galore and inconsistancies abound.

I have just made my 1st level 5 npc attack with 550 ballistas & 550 transports level 8 archery & level7 horseback but sustained a loss of 33 ballistas . I am not a newbie and have farmed level 5 on numerous servers.Has there been a glitch or have the programmers altered something as I have been advised by a fellow alliance member that this formula was still working last week

Ok I farm lvl 5s like crazy the trick is HBR cannot be more than 1 behind and it cannot be equal to arch unless its 10. The reason for all the losses on the posts here is the 2+ difference OR lvl 7 HBR. For some reason HBR 7 is bugged and will ALWAYS result in losses.

ATTACKING
Attacking low lvl NPC cities are mainly for resource and gold, this is done with ballistas to achieve 0 loses. The maximum level without loses is level 5, level 6 or more have trebuchets so you will always suffer losses there.
But there are ARCHER TOWERS… so you need specific tech level of archery and Horseback Riding (HBR).

This number depends on your hero ATTACK attribute, the safe numbers for heroes with no attack with 0 loses are:
(Note: You still need one of the above zero loss Archery/HBR combinations)
20 Ballistas vs Lvl1 NPC
50 Ballistae vs Lvl2 NPC
170 Ballistae vs Lvl3 NPC
250 Ballistae vs Lvl4 NPC
550 Ballistae vs Lvl5 NPC

just be sure to scout first. everytime you scout the hero on the npc changes, make it be a low level like 10 or less and then hit it. lower hero opponent = less losses

Hey guys so here’s the deal. Hit a lv 5 npc, lv 8 arch lv 6 hbr (that goes by the above chart.) 550 ballistae, and a hero with 118 attack. lost 39 ballistae, any idea why?
