Making Gear in the Workshop
In Evony Age II you can make your own gear for your heroes in the workshop. It is cool that the workshop building finally has some use. You need a certain level of the workshop to make certain gear. The gear you make come in 10 different levels.
To be able to create gear for your heroes you need to have enough resources. Each type of gear requires a specific combination of resources. The resources you need to produce gear are not the same as those you produce in your villages. At the moment the only way to get these resources seem to be to buy them in the Evony store. I expect that you are able to get these from attacks just like medals in the future.
You need to research the technology of the various items in the workshop before you are able to produce them. To research the technologies from level 3 and beyond you need to use Lost Armor Scripts. These can be bought in the Evony store at 40 cents or you can get them from NPC attacks. This is a list of the technologies:
- Weaponry.
- Shield construction.
- Mount training.
- Necklace fabrication.
- Charm.
- Ring crafting.
- Head gearing.
- Shoulder gearing.
- Chest gearing.
- Back gearing.
- Gauntlets.
- Belts.
- Legs gearing.
- Foot gear.
There are five types of resources, Wood, Iron Ore, Thorough Breds, Gemstones, and Fabric. The gemstones mentioned here are not the same as gems or stratagems. To get these resources you buy boxes with them, just like medal boxes, and each box contain 2-4 of the resources that you want. The boxes are called wood box, iron ore box, riding rein, gemstone box and fabric box.
To make the gear even better you can upgrade the gear’s star levels. You upgrade the star levels of the gear in the workshop as well, and you can learn more about this in my guide to star levels of Evony Age 2.

Yeah I agree, making them is no problem. EQUIPPING them seems to be the problem? How do we EQUIP the items to our heroes?

I just clicked on Hero Gear. I was having the same problem unless your Hero is level 10 you cant equip them. They really should put some info on that on game. It has took me two days to find it written somewhere.

right – hero needs level 10 to use the level1 gear, level 20 hero to use the level2 gear etc. All your hero’s can use the same gear once you’ve researched it, and the one-click switch means the gear research can be increasing politics, attack, intelligence whichever each toon needs. The horse gear increases the speed of all the units marching with that hero.
If you add stars to gear – be aware that messing up adding a star can erase all prior stars on it. Also upgrading the level of a piece will take one star off it. So Upgrade pieces as high as you can before adding stars and read the star-upgrade text carefully.
I have gotten materials for upgrading gear – very very rarely as loot. You can also get it from the roulette wheel. The armor scripts for level3+ gear drop much more frequently as loot.
Note that the hero’s wear 2 rings and 2 charms, so upgrading those gives a double bonus – so they ought to be the first things you do – given proper materials.

I understand the Manual star upgrade and also the Auto upgrade using Delicate Gems. However, I’m not sure about the Auto upgrade using Flawless Gems, since you have the option of choosing “Use flawless from Lv 1″ or “Use flawless from Lv 2″ or “Use…”, etc, etc.
For example, I want to upgrade an item from 4 Star to 5 Star using Flawless Gems.
What is the difference if I choose “Use flawless from Lv 1″ or “Use flawless from Lv 4″?

I found the 10 cents you get from the correspondence quest at the beginning of the game, if you buy 1 iron, 1 wood, 1 gem, and 2 fabric is more than enough to get you every single piece of lvl 1 gear, with 2 gems and a heck of a lot of fabric left over. With hindsight you can get slightly better results by getting 2 iron and 1 fabric instead of 1 fabric and 2 iron, thus allowing you one extra upgrade before you are out of materials.

I don’t get anything about the star level stuff of items at all. Its such a stupid thing to incorporate into the game, all it does is frustrates you. Hoe does it work?
i love you

I have a level 17 hero so he should be able to wear level 1 gear, but I can’t figure out a way to actually get gear onto the hero.
I have researched several types of gear up to level 1, (and the rest to level 2 before I realized he couldn’t wear it.)
I don’t seem to have the option anywhere to put gear on him or buy gear for him.

Let’s see if I understand….
I’m supposed to BUY mats to build gear, the building of which will lower the “star level”. And in order to improve the star level, I have to BUY more mats for a process that not only may not work, but could drop my star level all the way back to zero, thus nessitating that I BUY more stuff?
Hmmm, let’s think about this….
No thank you.

Well, no one answered my question so I will answer it, as I have figured out how to make and equip gear onto my heroes.
Research the gear in your workshop, (at least to level 1 to be able to make it,) then go to your Feasting Hall, (no need to wait for research “cooldown” to finish.)
Click “View” beside a hero and click the empty boxes that surround the outline of the hero on the right side of the screen.
You apparently just click on the empty boxes to both “make” and “equip” each type of gear. You get to pick whether to increase their politics, attack or intelligence, and that stat will increase by 1 if you have a level 10+ hero, by 2 if you have a level 20+ hero and have researched the gear to level 2, by 3 if your hero is level 30+ and you have researched to level 3, etc.
Note: hero must be level 10, and you must have researched the gear at least level 1 for anything to happen when you click those empty boxes.
I have no idea why there is no mention of this anywhere that I can find, and I couldn’t get a straight answer from ANYONE about this. Is it secret?

So hang on, you can only get gemstones by buying them?……I thought this game was free. i know you can pay to get further quicker, but this is actually paying to play the game….totally disgusting.

Some observations:
Without buying anything I was able to research all the items of gear – but I may have gotten some materials from the wheel.
Researching an item is the same as making it. This is done in the workshop.
Any hero of level 10 or higher can use the researched gear, BUT the attribute buffs gained are limited to the level of the workshop of that city. So, my level 35 attack hero wears mostly lvl2 gear (I’ve not gotten but 1 “Lost Armor Scripts” so far) with lvl3 charms. And she looks like she’s wearing the same gear in all 3 of my cities. But she gets max buffs in the city with lvl6 workshop, only lvl1 buffs in the city with lvl1 workshop, and only the star buffs – no basic gear buffs at all – in the city with no workshop (destroyed to test this out).
Stars utilize the gems that you get from attacking NPC cities. Yes, you run the risk of losing stars each time you attempt to raise the star level of a piece of gear. However, since the only use I’ve found, so far, for the gems is in the workshop raising star levels, NOT using them is essentially wasting them. You can use up to 4 gems at a time to increase the success rate, but I don’t do that. I’ve figured that with a better than 50% chance of success, using 1 gem, and then one gem, and then another single gem until success, generally raises the star level MUCH more efficiently. And I’ve raised the star level of the rings and charms (hero wears 2, researched and “starred” at the same time) first, and then each piece of gear by one star, before raising to two stars. The first star level adds 0.4 attribute point, the second adds another 0.35, the third another 0.30. So the gems(stars) become less and less powerful as their numbers increase on any one piece of gear. Looking at the sequence suggests why the system limits the number of star levels to 8, but raising the level of gear researched is supposed to increase the star limit somehow, so what the ninth and higher star adds is mysterious at this time.

Researching the mount adds speed to the hero rather than an attribute buff. Lvl1 horse adds 10%, lvl2 20%, and, I assume, onward and upward. What “speed” does is shorten the marching time of the hero’s army by the percentage. This decreased time is NOT taken into account by the Rally Point time-of-march calculator. Example: The Rally Point says it will take 30mins for an army to reach the NPC city I’m attacking. If my hero for that wave has 20% speed, it will actually only take 24mins. A 10% speed boost hero would make that wave take 27mins to get there. (I have screwed up on occasion and had the second wave reach the attack before the first wave, because I assigned the wrong heroes).

Interesting observation: Evony game developers are constantly changing things without notice. The Rally Point “one-way trip” time calculator now DOES take into account the hero’s speed – you don’t have to do the arithmetic yourself. And the time reduction from the speed attribute is not exactly 10, 20, 30… percent. A speed of 10 will reduce the time by about 8%; 20 will reduce it by 16.6%.

They’ve fixed the times now so you don’t have to unmount your heros when figuring out attack times FYI….

have you factored in the compass tech ?
troop speed – (compass + horse) = 300
(not) troop speed – compass – horse = 400
if all = 100
