Informatics
Informatics is the technology that effects how you gain information from your scouts. A high informatics level will allow your scouts to gain more information on a place you send them to. A scout attack checks the size of an opposing city’s military.
With each upgrade to informatics, your scouts will gain more data when scouting, and they can scout higher level locations. Please also not that like other technologies, informatics needs certain prerequisites to upgrade. As the level of informatics increases, so will be the spying capabilities of your scouts. This might provide you with the upper hand that you will need to conquer an opposing empire. Detailed information about scouting can be found in the table below.

do we need to have beacon tower the same level as our informatics, for it to be as effective?

I have two cities with equal academies in both, and high informatics.
Yet my main city scouts accurately for the level while my second city scouting the same location, gets a message that informatics is too low.
Any idea why?

Beacon Tower. The higher the level of your Beacon Tower in the city you scout from, the more info you will get
