Colonize a city
A new feature of Evony Age II is that you can colonize the city of another player. When you colonize someone you don’t completely own this city, you just have some control over it. To colonize a city you first have to declare war against it, click on the city you wish to colonize and click on the “Declare War” button. Then you have to wait 30 minutes for the war declaring period to end before you can launch your colonization attack.
Click on the city and click “Colonize” launch the colonization attack. You need to attack the city successfully to start the colonization, so make sure you send enough troops to win the battle. There is a certain colonization time before the city becomes your colony, this is called the suppression time and is 8 hours.
You should make sure you keep sending more troops to the city during the suppression period. The person you are trying to colonize can also send reinforcements to the city during this period to a possible massive battle at the end of the colonizing period. If you win the battle at the end of the 8 hour suppression time the city becomes your colony.
You will get gold and resources paid in tribute from the colonized city, the city become a vassal of yours. I’m not sure how much gold and resources you get from the colonized city, or if you can choose the tribute from your colony yourself. The options you can use on a colonized city is Tax Imposition, Disarmament, Food Levy, Draft, ,Pop. Redeployment and Sow Discord.
At some point your vassal, or colonized city, can rise up against you, real more about uprising against your suzerain here. There is a quest in Evony Age II that is called uprising and says you can do this if your city is colonized. You can also issue your own anti-colonization commission quest to help you rise up against your Suzerain. The colonization seems like a very interesting new feature of Evony Age II and l’m looking forward to testing it out more.
14. April there was an update to how many colonies each of your cities can have. Evony increased the number of colonies that players can own. Every city can now have a maximum number of colonies equal to the number which is the lord’s title level multiplied by 10. I assume this means that civilian can have 10 colonies for his 1 city, knights 20 for each of his 2 cities, so 40 total, baronet 30 for each of his 3 cities, so 90 total etc. Prinzessin would then following this rule able to have 100 colonies for each of his 10 cities, which is a total of 1,000 colonies. This does seem like a lot of colonies, but it is how I understand the post. The title number for Prinzessin is 10, 10 times 10 is 100, and this is for each of the players 10 cities. If you have any information about this I would be happy if you would let me know, thanks!

Does a player have to attain a certain rank or title in order to colonize a city? How many colonies can a player have? Does the number of colonies a player can have vary based on rank or title?

I will update this guide soon, but to answer some questions. It seems that every city you own can have 6 other cities as colonizes, no matter you title/rank. And you cannot colonize NPC cities.
I dunno why you don’t get the uprise button up, or why Dandri can’t do anything with his colony, unless the 8 hour supression time isn’t over?

12 Apr 10 at 3:35 am
And all these colonies are owned by one of your cities? If so my theory that you can only own 2 per city as a knight must be wrong, 2 per city so that you can have a total of 4 colonize if you have 2 cities. Very interested in hearing how many you are able to colonize.
Iwind
12 Apr 10 at 9:18 am
yes colonizing a city depends on ur title and the city u have …like if ur knight and have 2 cities then u can colonize a total of 4 cities ..2 per city u owned

12 Apr 10 at 1:18 pm
That’s what I thought and wrote in this article, was pretty sure this was correct. Can anyone else confirm? So then baronet would be 3 per city, 9 total, baron 4 per city, 16 total, etc. I’ll test this out with a new account, but I believe this is the way it is.
Iwind
12 Apr 10 at 3:01 pm
I did the colonize thing… at the end of the 8 hours, city simply disappeared. A little flag replaced it. What does that mean? City was originally (i think) abondoned, prestige 0. Does it have to be an actively played city?

I find that you have to declare war to colonise. That option only becomes available after clicking ‘declare war’ and then waiting the 30 mins delay for ‘warfare’ to begin

draft allows you to get 10% of one of the troop types in the colonized city to drafted into YOUR army. pop. readjustment (or whatever it is) allows you to move population from the colony to the colonizing city. demoralize allows you to reduce the moral of any heroes in the city by 30, and i don’t remember the last one causes 10% of troops to be returned to civilization. levy food and tax, as stated, are obvious.
If your alliance is already at war with the alliance of the city you wish to colonize, there is no need to declare war (as war is already declared, obviously)
UPRISING – it is located on the MAP on the INFO screen for the colonizing city
you cannot NPC their city, but they can
and no, there is no way for you to get in and control their city.
You get a portion of what they produce… but they can make it very much not worthwhile by reducing production to 0. especially if they have multiple cities… they can move all of their troops to another city, reducing how much they NEED to produce.
I did this and by reducing my production to 0, the amount of tribute of resources dropped to only 15.

I’m not sure if it was fixed but as of the end of Beta, up til the last day this was bugged all to ****.
If you colonize someone, then another player attempts to colonize them, your entire army vanishes from your town. They do not show up in war reports. They are just gone.
I lost 3million troops this way in a single moment.

15 Apr 10 at 8:26 am
@Cook; In your city panel on the right of the main screen there should be a crown over your suzerain city. Hover over it and it will show your colonies. Click the colony and you can choose to draft troops, draw population and all that jazz.
I’m stuck at the moment, with the same problem Jake has. I have two colonies now, and wanted to colonize a third when I got an ‘invalid request’ when trying to send out my troops. Somebody told me the limit was to have two colonies, but that would make the ‘city expansion’ quest to own 5 colonies impossible. I have a town hall level 5, my title/rank is captain/baronet. Does anyone know how to colonize more towns?
Auxilius
15 Apr 10 at 3:30 pm
I have colonized 4 cities per town now, and it has 6 empties. It also says from the last update maintenance period the colonization is opened up with Baronet, those below this rank will not be able to colonize. And seeing I have 6 openings for colonization, I would assume its 18 total for Baronet since you can build 3 cities.
Keith
15 Apr 10 at 9:30 pm
You have colonized 4 per town, so that’s 12 colonies. 6 openings per city is 18 openings, so that would mean that you can colonize 30 total as baronet. According to the post by Dawnseeker it should be 30 per city…. Wish they would give out more details.

What sucks is that any newcomer who just comes off seven day protection is immediately attacked and colonized.
It’s a bad feature that avoids players learning the game properly. So unless you’re unemplyed and have a chance to play 20 hr /day you have limited chance of enjoyment at the start unless you feel like forking out the $$$$

Suzerain of that city now, check.
Player’s inactive, so no uprising, check.

Another player attacks my colony I’m suzerain of. I don’t care about city, I abandon it. 24 hours must pass to “handover”! I and everyone else would just like to be able to Attack and not have to figure this “colonization” thing out. Soldier Z
19 Apr 10 at 4:26 pm
Some things you are missing…
Your colonies come under your protection… I am unsure if the colony troops fight alongside yours or if the colony’s defenses count in the battle.. but when someone tries to attack your colony… YOUR TROOPS will help to defend it [at the same rate as you set through the colony menu, accessed by mousing over your suzerain town in your town list].
—-What sucks is that any newcomer who just comes off seven day protection is immediately attacked and colonized.—–
With regards to this… you are benefiting from being under a suzerain, you get the protection of their troops as above, meaning you are free to build a strong npc farming army without worrying too much about fending off your attackers.
I have 15 colonies so far… on a level 8townhall as a baron, most of them inactive or rarely active… you get 15% of their production [20% of their food and gold]
Myzt
20 Apr 10 at 2:10 pm
so farewell to larger players “farming” smaller players by plundering them daily, you get to keep some sort of control & independence, should’ve made it more obvious as suzerain is small in top cvorner

This is confusing as all get out, just out from under beginners protection, and I am under supression with no way to fight it. Those that complain about getting colonized after 7 day. E1, you come out of BP and either a) someone immediately starts farming you taking all your resources several times a day b) someone takes you to zero pludering the crap out of you, you tele (rinse and repeat) c) several of your neighbors covet your recources and you are constantly hammerd by them (rinse repeat)
E2, you get colonized, you loose only 15% of resouces (not all of it), you keep building, building, building, someone covets your stuff, they attack, your Colonizer defends with his troops.
Let all the ADD punks that just want to take everying and npc everyone stay in E1
Dave
22 Apr 10 at 1:36 am
Colonizing replaces 5 hours or more a day managing your NPC farms. On the other side… your no longer at the mercy of some guy farming NPCs five hours a day so he can send hundreds of thousands of troops at you to either take or npc all your cities either while your at lunch, work, asleep, meeting with the kids teacher, general life necessities.
I saw the number 2 player on one E1 server loose connection after building a city to add to his npc farm. Within the hour, he lost his two other cities and that city intended to be an npc, well it is now his main and only city with no troops, zero loyalty, and massive grievance.. nothing but his tech left, his alliance boots him for being stupid… he resets. Several months of hard labor pay homage to the tidy bowl man.
Dave
22 Apr 10 at 1:48 am
It would appear the whole idea of colonising is to encourage the more experienced players away from the newer players. It is much more effective to farm npcs than colonising a new player

22 Apr 10 at 8:26 am
I understand the Colonization mechanics between individual non-NPC players, but what happens when war is declared between alliances? Do alliance wars revert to Age I style combat, or are we strictly limited to Age II’s Colonization?
If Colonizing is the only form of combat between players in Age II, (and there is NO Attacking/Plundering between non-NPC players), then Warehouses and Privateering are 100% useless, and Transporters are much less useful than they used to be.

This game is more capture the flag style. 0, 0 is capital of the world. Each state has capitals, regional cities and level 12s. Those seem to be the prizes.

I have 3 cities, I’m a General Marquis. Two of my cities have 2 colonies each. With one I have attacked 3 more cities, and now the suppression period is over, but the suppression bar is still there, and I haven’t colonised them. Each city has my forces there, but the colonisation cycle won’t complete.
Any thoughts?
Jack
23 Apr 10 at 8:35 am
just to add to my previous post, Warehouses, Privateering AND Stockpile now seem 100% useless in Age II. The only reason for pursuing them is for those people who feel driven to clean up all the Quests.
Unless there’s Age I style battle/plundering hidden somewhere in Age II, it wouldn’t make much sense to invest space, resources and time into them.
Am I right for thinking this way?

I was attacked and colonized within hours of coming out of Beginner Protection and have been not been able to break free. I also don’t seem to be able to find out the number of troops that my Suzereign has in my City. colonisation is simply a method of partially replacing the need to farm constantly for sources, it also promotes conflict since you need troops to colonise. the person colonising needs more troops to uprise, and then needs colonies to support their resources. the original coloniser probably building even more troops incase they get colonised. It promotes fear, paranoia and most of all warfare. vicious circle but you gotta love it

I currently have 2 cities. With the title baronet I successfully colonized 11 cities with one of my cities and 10 cities with the other. I can’t levy food or gold from my colonies, but I have all the other options. If you want to find out how many troops are in your Suzerain’s city you’ll have to build up enough scouts to scout them. Otherwise I guess you’re out of luck. That’s where the alliances will come in–you can get a fellow alliance member to scout. You can also have them send troops to help you uprise.

I played Evony I for over 10 months and had to force myself to quit. I wasn’t getting anything else in life done.
I happened upon Evony Age II and thought I’d give it a try.
This idea of colonization is for fifth graders. I had NO PROBLEM walking away from Age II – and had no desire to spend a single dollar (age one I spent like $500.00)

Speaking of stopping bullying and blah blah blah, here is what makes it even worst an very distasteful. i just finished beginners protection, then bam! i got colonized. great, now i cant uprise because obviously i sure can’t match my opponents troops. now i get to toil with him/her for freedom for god knows how long.. no thanks i’ll just leave the city better still leave the game. well, thanks evony for making it easy for me to quit.

does anyone know what the point of loyalty trend is in this version – you can’t send multiple attacks to bring it down with this suppression thing…
Once you have colonised the city all you can do is reinforce for the final battle at the end of suppression. Why have a loyalty trend if there is nothing you can do with it?
For those who have had a problem losing troops when someone else tries to steal your colonised city – it is because you have the suppression setting of the city on 100% – this means that all the troops you currently have, in the city you attacked with, will be sent to defend your colonized city from attack by another player.

2 May 10 at 7:29 am
everyone complaining about being colonized right after beginners protection you’re missing the point…in the old one if you started gettign attacked right after you’re army was destroyed and you were open to get your resources plundered constantly so you could never build back up or your city might just be captured outright, the end. with colonization, yea it stinks but your city is still there and you can’t be farmed. you lose a percentage of your resources but once you are able to build up you can uprise and throw off the colonizer. i think this is a much better alternative then the doom of beign attacked after beginner protection in age one
also anybody have an answer for the invalid operation issue??

there needs to be a means to flag a city as being colonized besides the writing in the top right corner, this has led to a lot of attacks that wouldn’t have happened if a clearer way of distinquishing a colonized city was used.
I would prefer if there were still some plundering allowed.perhaps 1/4 of resources & you colonize!

At least in Age 1 you were allowed to keep your last city. In this game ALL of your cities can be colonized.
So how does a player get stronger and break free, like everyone keeps saying is possible, when you lose 15% of you resources hourly and the same of your troops daily?
You build troops, your “owner” takes them to help fight of your uprising. You can’t send wave attacks, or defend against them. What’s the point? You sit for 8 hours waiting to see if you might win. There’s no getting together with your alliance and FIGHTING. You build a NPC to farm and the next day it’s gone.

OK. What really are the rules and limits of numbers of colonized cities? Does anyone really know?
OK so I have 8 colonies out of one city, and 15 colonies out of another. My title is Duke. How many colonies can I have?
I ask because I am attempting to colonize a particular city. The player is not a member of any alliance, and he is not a colony of another player (not that this is a real problem, except that one cannot steal a colony away from a member of a friendly alliance)
when I assign troops and click on “colonize” I get the response “invalid option”
Say what? I’ll report this as a bug, but who knows what lurks in the hearts of Evony?

If my two cities are colonies of somebody else, why play?

21 May 10 at 4:13 pm
The problem with colonization is the new players have no concept of it. The game recommends that you take the time to build up your city, not your army. Therefore, you are at risk of being colonized right after protection. If you do build up troops, the new player really has no idea that you need the 10s of thousands.
To beat the colonization effort, you have to win the suppression fight. However, most of your troops were wiped out in the initial attack. Therefore, you probably won’t win.
This causes the new player to do one of two things: Create a new account and start over or Quit completely. Those who colonized the city don’t care as they are getting lots of resources with zero care. Evony loses because new players won’t be purchasing coins. New player loses because they quit and don’t find out how fun the game can be.
I would suggest one of more of the following be adopted:
1. A longer protection period with quests to build up armies stressed.
2. Limit the ability to colonize, say by one or two levels lower then the colonizer (prevents Earls from attacking citizens).
3. A time limit on the colonization – say 14 days.

For those who have the colonization progress bar stuck, it is a known bug :-/
You have to wait until the server maintenance, then it will be fixed and the city will join your colonies, provided you win the suppression fight. For inactive cities there is usually no fight (coz no reinforcements) so it should be fine.

this is lame, colinisation.
whats the point in the game? they take a small percentage of your production and provide protection.
so what is there to do. you don’t need an army as you can’t go to war. you don’t need an alliance as once you get colinised, you are the only one able to break it.
I am struggling to see any point to the game

This guide contains very little information on the actual colonization and uprising process, and most of the comments are not much help. I guess I will have to join an alliance and/or learn by doing.

Ok so I’ve been attacked and killed everyone of my hard earned troops. I have 8 hrs suppression period in which I can prepare to win a battle with no troops or resources. All my fortifications are gone and somebody is saying that this is better than getting bullied like in age 1. One question, how should I win the major battle at the end of the suppression period when all my troops got killed in the initial attack. And if he had a big enough army to destroy ALL my troops and fortification with the initial attack, what are the odds that I’ll have a big enough force to win the big battle? Probably none. hmmmm something is not adding up. Oh I know, why don’t I spend real money to get resources so that I can build my army back up in 8 hours? Hmmmm not gonna happen. I’ve been playing this game for 3 weeks and I’ve yet to see how it’s better than age 1. Atleast in age 1 if I’m being attacked, I can always teleport. Age 2, that is not an option is it. No it says I first have to get rid of ally reinforcements before I can teleport. Ok, but I look in my embassy and it’s not showing any reinforcements and I know for a fact that no one has reinforced my city. So what ally troops should I send back? Oh must be the attacker’s troops. But wouldn’t that be “ENEMY” troops instead of ally? So what are the options after you get attacked and enter the suppression period? Oh yeah, join the attacker’s alliance and colonization will stop. That’s provided you meet the criterias laid out by the alliance and that they have room for you and you get accepted. Otherwise, you’re pretty much screwed. But that’s ok, we won’t call you “BULLIED”, just “SCREWED”. Oh but it’s better because now, no one else can colonize you unless they have a bigger army than your “SUZERAINE” (master). Let’s do the math shall we? Train 100 archers, he/she takes 10. Train 1000, he/she takes 100. Your master get’s to pick from your best heroes. Your master gets to take a portion of all your resources. If he/she thinks your army is getting too big, he/she can disarm 10% of your troops. Am I forgetting something?
By the way Evony, I noticed alot of questions being asked. I didn’t notice a whole lot of answers.

I agree with TB above, but I disagree with his second option. Basically, the suppression period ought to last significantly longer than it currently does, and the Beginner’s Protection period needs to last a bit longer and/or not be deactivated by a level five Town Hall.
I agree that the Quests also need more troop construction emphasis.

The invalid option thing is when the city is already under supression by someone else, but the final battle hasn’t happened yet.

In general, at this date (June 12, 2010) the colonization guide does need some reworking. But more than that, the Evony colonization system needs some serious bug fixing.
Sticky Colony Menu problem – I have colonies taken from four different of my cities. Very often, the list of colonies is the same for each city. Sometimes refreshing the screen changes things. Sometimes clearing the cache and refreshing the screen changes things. Sometimes closing the browser and reopening changes things. Sometimes not. Mostly the change is a different city’s colony list showing up in all four cities.
Then when paging through the colonies there is the unpredicatable issue of exercising one of the policy decrees and the buttons do not change color.
Most maddening is the clicking on the troops option to see what is there to be drafted. L10 informatics and L9 or L10 beacon tower, and yet what I see is “zounds” and “legion” and all that nonsense. You’d think the suzerein would get somewhat better information. Then there is the issue with the system claiming there are troops in the city yet when I draft I get the message “There are no troop in the city”
Etc etc etc

I think colonising people is fun. I enjoy the hate/begging mail ive recieved. Its just a different way to play, if you dont like it then feel free to stick to Evony .
If you cant uprise out of being colonised yourself, the only option then seems to be to issue an anti-colonisation quest. This costs cents, which is obviously one of the main reasons they doing age 2 this way. Age 2 definately trying to get your money more. lol

29 Jun 10 at 7:34 pm
I have to agree w TB this colonization thing isn’t fair for new players. I had no idea about this colonization. Right after the protection ended I was colonized at 2AM no way I would have known and I was level 3 or 4. The person a “REAL BIG TOUGH GUY” was level 24. THAT’S REALLY FAIR there was no way that I fought against him. I guess that people that got bullied as a kid find doing these type of things fun. I believe in a fair fight or at least a good competition.

Okay, so I’ve sent a couple of attacks on cities with almost no defense. The last one had 10 workers. I sent something like 500 workers, 1,000 warriors, 25 pike, 25 sword, 500 archers. Maybe 750 archers. In any case, I lost them all and didn’t do 10% damage. Huh? I’m sure I was fighting an inactive player (maxed out resources) and unless my scouting was way, way, off, I can’t figure out how I lost the battle. This is the 2nd time this has happened. Is there a “here’s what you need to win a battle against a city” guide? I just can’t see how my force could have lost.

I’m not getting 10% of the others guys troops when I draft, as it says on the button.
Before I drafted he had 175 – I got 4
Previous day I got 9 and before that 10, 10 etc.
Highest I got was first day 12 when he had like 220 odd
Anyone know why, or have they changed the rule?

For those of you who say, if you don’t like being colonized, play E1…. thats just wrong. You have that attitude because you aren’t the one being colonized just hours out of BP. E2 sucks unless you got on the server with the first of them. I won’t even play E1 anymore because of it. Evony designers…. bad idea letting players just out of BP falling pray to members just because they’ve been on the server longer.

What a stupid game. What’s the point of beginner protection when you get creamed the minute it’s over ? I’ve got emails saying that I’m toast the minute BP runs out. What kind of chance do you have ? NONE ! …oh right unless you spend lots of $$$. Dumb game for losers who have more money than brains. Evony has gotten too greedy. They’re not getting my 2 cents !!!

I joined Age 2 server NA16… got out of BP and was colonized a few days later. I didn’t whine and quit like everyone above… I hid my troops in a flat next to my town. Then started another city and moved the troops there. I then built up enough troops to defend that city. After my techs were level 10 and I had a nice number of troops. I uprised, got reinforcements from my alliance and ended up killing 1.8mil troops from my Suzerain. Since then, I’ve had enough cities to produce archers quick enough to defend my cities and nobody has tried to colonize me since.
————————–
For those who don’t know what to do after colonizing a city
—————————–
Say you used your city called “Main” to send troops from and colonize someone elses city. Once you have them colonized, simply hover your mouse over your city “main” in your cities list (on the right of the screen, next to your resource production) and you will see a little box pop-out that has a list of all the cities you have colonized. Click on one of those colonized cities and up comes the box allowing you to Draft Troops, Re-deploy population etc.

————————–
What to do if someone is uprising against you
————————–
If somebody is uprising their city against you, do not panic. You DO NOT need to send your troops to the city.
Let me explain why;
Say I have 2 cities, both with 100k archers. The city I used to colonize someone is called “Kev”. When 1 of them uprises against me, send all your troops from all your cities to the city called “Kev”. So for example, “Kev” now has 200k archers in the city. All you do now is sit and wait. You DO NOT need to send your troops to the city. Why? Because 1 second before the uprise battle, all of your troops in the city “Kev” will instantly teleport themselves in to the city that is uprising. 1 second after the uprise battle, your troops are back home. Evony has set Age2 so that troops will instantly move to the uprising city just before the battle and will instantly bring them home just after. I know this because my alliance member had someone uprise against them. My alliance member didn’t do anything, however when the uprise took place… all her troops were there to stop them!

Age 1 is for losers that can’t build up from scratch again, whine about getting hit in the face as soon as you leave BP? Join one of the new servers that comes out every month, OR grow a pair and join an alliance and actually help eachother.
QQing about being suzied? Guess what, it probably helps you, you stupid noob (if you get attacked while suzied, the suzierain’s troops fight to defend you, small price to pay for 15% tribute on resources). Don’t want to get suzied? Don’t make it worth their while, stop stock-piling millions of golds and get some GD troops!
aaaaaaaand Age2 has attack now, so you can NPC their cities just like age1, suck less please.

In age 1 a weaker player from an weaker alliance could take over and barb enemy cites just by coordinate attacks and do good intel.
Now its more difficult, because a stronger[1] player could mass all his or her troops in the city.
No room for maneuver and lighting attacks such as for age 1.
:/
[1]: In this regard a stronger player is a player who has done more farming, not stronger by good playin’

How comes that the same city is still under suppression after 12 hours ??? I started a war against someone on na29, attacked him firs t with succes and then wanted to Colonize. At that moment I got the message that you can not colonize a city that is under Suppression. 12 hours lates I get the same message when I try to colonize it. How is this possible when Suppresion time is 8 ! hours ??

I have an ageII account and you can attack
I took out most of a cities troops then colonized it.
I Think that if you colonize a big player that you can get a LOT-OF-TROOPS. Plus if a Big player colonizes you you should hide troops in a vallie of your when you get off-line then the person colonizing you would not get any.
If your colonized then that gives you a chance to build with protection.

For PietJell, if someone else colonized while you were only attacking then the city could be under suppression time in which case.. no attack is available… looks like someone beat you to it

If you are colonized simply move your army into a valley that you own. Sure the food you need for the army doubles but at least you have an army. They can only draft troops from you if you have troops in the colonized city. If you do get colonized just uprise and ask your alliance to reinforce you. Then you have youra army and all the troops that they send you to fight your suze. I have been suzed multiple times and I have been a suze many times. I am currently a suze. Just ask your suzerain to let you go, but ask nicely don’t just demand to be let go.

TOTALLY DISSAPPOINTED!!!!! I just spent many many hours under BP the past 7 days preparing city for attacks and getting ready to attack others thinking age 2 was the same as age 1 only to find out about this majorly shit colonise feature and the removal of the best part of the game (attacking and plundering). After reading this forum post I feel like I have just wasted a hell of alot of time setting up an age 2 game which is not even really the same game anymore, what a totally shit game, i know why you “THINK” it is better for beginners, but that just crap, the way it was, was just fine, you learnt to get your shit together and form strong alliances when you faced the open war game. Im so pissed off now i think im just going to boycott EVONY all together, there should be clearly identified differences before people decide to play age 2, because its just a differnt game all together really. Time to go find a real game to play….
