Evony endgame – checking if opponent is online
Before attacking, and especially scout bombing, strong players in the endgame of Evony it is important to figure out if they are online or offline. If they are online they can just keep their gates open if you send archers or cavalry at them, and close them if you send scout bombs having all your scouts die on their fortifications. Here are a few tricks you can use to figure out if the player you are about to attack is online.
If his gates are open you can start sending a 100k scout bomb to the target. You send 1 scout on a scout mission to land at the same time or 1 second after the scout bomb attack. Turn back the 100k scout bomb at the last second. If you see the gate is suddenly closed you know the player is online and closed his gates to defend against the scout bomb. Catapults, are they any good?
Catapults are the most powerful units in Evony, they throw huge rocks at the enemy from a very long distance. Catapults are really cool, and for an attack force nothing beats a 125k catapult attack. There are many problems with them though, number one is that they take an extremely long time to build and you need level 10 barracks to build them in. Many players have 100 total barracks that are level 9, but very few have even close to this many level 10 barracks. In addition to level 10 barracks you also need level 10 metal casting and level 10 archery. Read the rest of this entry »
Evony Archer Towers
Archers towers in Evony, also called Evony ATs, are simply the best fortifications there is. They stand on top of a massive wall shooting at enemy units from a comfortable position. They will gain an extra 4.5% shooting range for each level your wall is, giving them the second highest range of all the units in Evony. The only unit with higher range is the defensive trebuchet, but that unit is way too expensive and take too much room.
With a battle range of 5000 the archers towers can often shoot at enemy troops for many rounds without anyone hitting them back. I try to get as many archer towers as possible on my walls, about 14,000 of them on a maxed wall. Read the rest of this entry »
Abatis
Abatis is the second best fortification there is Evony in my opinion. It is very important to have some of these in your city defense, but not too many. For a city with a maxed wall I usually go for about 1500 abatis. The great thing with the abatis is that it only affects cavalry and cataphracts, so it is not possible to kill off someones abatis with warrior cleaning waves. The abatis also extends combat range to 5,000 which in some battles is really important. A city without any abatis is really vulnerable to cavalry and cataphract attacks. Defensive trebuchets and rollinglogs
Defensive trebuchets and rollinglogs, often called DTs and RLs, are the two most expensive fortifications there are in Evony. They also take up a lot of space on your wall and take a long time to build, so the question is, are they really worth it? The defensive trebuchet used to be called rockfall before. It’s pretty much the same thing apart from that it now will target enemy siege weapons. They do deal quite a lot of damage in this role, but from experimenting a bit with them it seems to me it’s not worth giving away the wall spaces to defensive trebuchets instead of archer towers. Generally I have 100-200 defensive trebuchets just for layering purposes. I like to have some of each fortification there is. Read the rest of this entry »
Traps
Evony traps, is there any use in having them these days? I think you should have some traps, but not a whole lot of them, Archer towers are still the best fortification there is in my opinion, but it is nice to layer your fortifications a bit with traps and abatis as well. Traps are pretty good at killing foot soldiers, but they are pretty useless unless you combine them with archer towers. If a player only have traps as his fortification the enemies will just send cheap warriors at him and destroy those traps pretty easily. If he has archer towers as well however, losses will be much larger if he chooses to only send warriors. Read the rest of this entry »
Scouting in Evony
Getting intelligence before making attacks in Evony is really important so you don’t end up loosing battles and wasting troops attacking someone with no resources. NPCs in Evony don’t have any scouts of themselves, so you don’t have to worry about loosing your scouts in a battle when you try to scout them. The only problem scouting NPCs in Evony is that you need high enough informatics technology to get an accurate scout report. If your informatics level is too low, you won’t get any information at all from your scouting report. Read the rest of this entry »
