Archers

with 5 comments

Archers are by far the most popular troop type of Evony Age 2, and it was the same in Age 1. The reason is simply that it is considered the best troop there is. Archers will perform better than pretty much any other troop combination your enemy can send at you. Archers are great both when it comes to PvP and PvE. People have been farming NPCs with archers for a long time, and no other troop performs as good as archers here. When you want to conquer these new historic cities of Evony Age 2, archers are also the way to go.

Both for defense and offense archers are really good, and I suggest you focus mostly on archers when it comes to the basic defense of each of your cities. You need level 4 barracks to build archers, so the first thing you should focus on when you build a new city is to get all theĀ barracksĀ to level 4.

  1. Actually this is the one thing that disappoints me the most in this game. After all what’s the point of having all these other units(some of which can be very effective if used correctly) if they will just be taken out by archers. Cavalry in particular are the bane of archers in history because of their speed(very hard to hit a target moving at 35-40mph with a medieval bow). Every unit should have unit(s) that it is very strong against and have units which are strong against them to make the game balanced. As it is, it’s become a “who can build and deploy the most archers”…. Very disappointed…

  2. I am in total agreement with vortex. What is the point of having other units when archers with little bit of layering pretty much beat everything. The unit description reads that swordsmen are supposed to be “very effective against archers” but you need at least one and half times more swordsmen to take out archers with about 25% casualty and even then, if archers are layered even that many swords won’t do the job. I hardly see that as the definition of effectiveness. Either archers need their attack values reduced or swordsmen their defense values increased to be more resilient against archer fires.

  3. They do have a counter, watch cataphracts and cavalry tear them apart with a little warrior cover and archer backup

  4. I am new to this game but the one thing i have noticed is people talking about how many archers they have, they told me the ideal army for a newbie is 10k scouts, 25k archers and about 500 balistas, i dont think so, this is my army at this point ( i am still very new) About 15k archers and swordsmen, 3k scouts, 5.5k pikes, 2.5k cavs, 115 cata, no balista (yet, i know they are key) and so far the problems i have encoutnered are my cavalry get taken down by anything, warriors, archers, pikes, swordsmen. but my army has destroyed anything it has sencountered (a lvl 1 npc and lvl 7 lake, and to low pres. castles) so not that good yet. but i choose to use the entire range of troops because if i do they will be able to counter anything no matter what cause thet;re all good against something even if im not expecting it.

  5. Yes, attacking lvl 1-10 valleys (not cities) you can even just send say 12K archers, 1 war, 1 scout, 1 sword and one pike and win with little losses, because the stupid battle calculator sees the 1 sword or pike (whatever) as a complete wave, the enemy wave will be stopped in its tracks by one man giving your archers a free round of ranged mayhem! Strange but true!
